The name Bimini is believed to have meant "two islands" in the language of the original inhabitants, the Lucayans, who never survived our islands' encounter with Europeans. After the emancipation of slavery in 1838 Bimini was re-settled by a few assorted families of West African ancestry, who had immigrated from nearby islands. Prior to that the island served as a base for a small number of "wreckers,” who made a living preying on hapless shipwrecks.
For Ernest Hemingway, it was love at first sight when he docked his boat, Pilar, on Bimini Island back in the 1930s. He returned often after that, falling into the laid-back Bimini way of life that included swimming off the beach, snorkeling, trolling for monster game fish and yes, tossing back more than a few rums with the locals.

Bimini ~ The Sport Fishing Capital of The World.  The 3 water front lots can clearly be seen in this picture.  The ocean lots are located, lower center, where the sand beach meets the rocky breakwater.  The canal lot is directly to the right (East) accross the sand road (Harbor Rd).

Bimini is one of the most popular sailing destinations for private power boaters.  Great picture of Port Royale, South Bimini.  Port Royale has a home owners association with strict building standards that are covenants to all deeds.  The 3 lots for sale can be seen in this pictrure,  just left of center.
